Malaysia’s new Prime Minister Ismail Sabri

Ismail Sabri Yakub has become the new Prime Minister of Malaysia. Earlier, Ismail Sabri was the senior security minister in Muhiuddin Yasin’s cabinet and later the deputy prime minister.

This time he replaced Muhiuddin Yasin.

In a statement on Friday, Ahmed Fadil Shamsuddin, controller of the royal family, declared Ismail Sabri the ninth prime minister of Malaysia.

The statement further said that Ismail Sabri got the support of 114 MPs.

Therefore, in accordance with Articles 40 (2) (a) and 43 (a) (a) of the Federal Constitution, Ismail Sabri Yakub (Bera MP) was appointed as the ninth Prime Minister of Malaysia. Ismail Sabri will be sworn in as Prime Minister tomorrow (Saturday) at 2.30 pm.

Earlier, Ismail Sabri had served in various ministries during the rule of Barisan Nasional. In 2008, Ismail Sabri became the Minister of Youth and Sports. The following year he was made Minister of Internal Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism.

In 2013, he was made the Minister of Agriculture and Agro-based Industries. Two years later, he was appointed Minister of Rural and Regional Development
