Louisa County Excessive Faculty trainer Katharine Fletcher is working with resilience as COVID-19 put a maintain on the annual Lion Satisfaction Run.

That is the highschool’s sixth yr internet hosting this occasion, which was canceled final yr. 

On Monday morning, college students and workers cheered on and created posters for Fletcher as she took off working.

She is working 105 miles to Washington, D.C. to boost cash for scholarships for seniors at Louisa County Excessive Faculty.

Fletcher has raised greater than $70,000 over time, which has helped 25 seniors go to school. This yr, she’s hoping to boost $50,000.

“Louisa County is an excellent place and I like these youngsters and I am excited to go on the market and assist them with this run,” Fletcher stated.

Her run was canceled final yr as a result of pandemic. Highschool senior Savannah Goodwin says it has been a problem for her classmates to beat.

“We’re struggling too. It simply reveals her empathy with that, and it is nice to see a trainer perceive that after which do one thing about it,” Goodwin stated.

Superintendent Doug Straley says it is a lesson that goes past the classroom.
