BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Firefighters stated they responded to a home hearth on Lobelia Avenue Wednesday morning.

The hearth occurred round 10:40 a.m. Wednesday, March 2.

Authorities say three individuals who have been within the house have been in a position to escape the blaze earlier than crews arrived on the scene.

Firefighters rescued two canines and a hedgehog from inside the house however weren’t in a position to rescue a pet snake that was nonetheless inside. It was later discovered deceased.

Investigators say the fireplace was attributable to a mechanical malfunction in a automotive parked underneath the carport. The flames had engulfed the automotive and unfold to the roof of the home when crews arrived on the scene.

It took firefighters about half-hour to get the fireplace underneath management.

Officers say one of many residents was burned on the arms after reentering the house whereas making an attempt to avoid wasting the pets.
